Application Step-by-Step
With these steps, you are ready to start studying with us. We look forward to meeting you.
Register at the application portal uni-assist e.V. After successful registration, enter your current address for postal delivery of notifications.
Find your desired master's program using the search function. Through the selection list, you will reach the online application form. Follow the further instructions and upload the required documents (see below). Submit the online application by electronically transmitting the online application form to uni-assist.
After submitting the online form, you can supplement and complete documents via your personal document folder until the application deadline. The upload date and timestamp apply.
Your application documents will be pre-checked by uni-assist e.V. in the first step and forwarded to HPI for final application review and selection procedures. After timely receipt and completeness, an admissions committee will review your application.
Application
Requirred Documents
For the application for the 1st semester, you must submit the following documents via the online application form or your personal document folder on uni-assist e.V. in addition to your online application.
Proof of a bachelor's degree*
For an application without a formal degree, at least the following number of credit points must be proven at the time of application with a current transcript of records or a confirmation issued by the university about the current total number of credit points:
- at least 140 CP for bachelor's programs with a total of 180 CP
- at least 170 CP for bachelor's programs with a total of 210 CP
- at least 200 CP for bachelor's programs with a total of 240 CP
* or an equivalent first degree from a university, a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related subject is required for the Master's degree in Computer Science (M.Sc.)
Proof of the content and structure of the academic education**
The proof must contain the corresponding grading and credit point information. If applicants have not completed their achievements at the University of Potsdam, the proof must include information about the form, content, and examination modalities of the performance recording processes in which the credit points were acquired.

Translations
If academic proof is issued in a language other than German or English, a translation of these documents by a certified translator must also be uploaded via the study place portal.***

Additional documents per degree program
In the following overview, you will find out which additional documents you need to upload for each master's program in the uni-assist e.V. application portal.
In addition to the above-mentioned documents, the following must be submitted:
Applicants can request the recognition of additional language proficiency documents as part of their application. The examination board may recognize these if the language proficiency documents are at least equivalent to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages. Applicants are required to provide proof of comprehensive and situationally appropriate communication skills that meet the linguistic requirements of an academic stay abroad in a country where English is the target language.
A corresponding application consists of a cover letter from the applicant and the supporting document.- Applicants with citizenship of an EU member state or an academic degree from a German university: Proof of completion of the subject-specific test.
- Proof of additional qualifications acquired outside the higher education system, such as completed internships at home and abroad; vocational training or employment.
- Proof of special academic achievements such as awards and honors.
- Nationals of a non-EU member state or stateless persons: Proof of scholarships or special, institutionally affiliated research activities.
- Proof of final grade or current average grade.
- Documents providing seamless proof of all previous periods of study, including the study program and semesters. These include, for example, a current study progress certificate, a current enrollment certificate, or a certificate of deregistration.
- A document proving nationality (e.g., passport copy).
If applicable, a written request for immediate admission under the quota for exceptional hardship (hardship application) and suitable supporting documents.
If applicable, a document proving a previous admission claim and service record.
If applicable, written request for improvement of waiting time and suitable documents to prove it.
If applicable, written request for improvement of average grade and suitable documents to prove it.
If applicable, proof of pending or completed asylum procedure
If applicable, a certificate of membership in the national team of a federal sports association of the German Olympic Sports Confederation ("Deutscher Olympischer Sportbund", DOSB) by the Olympic training center Brandenburg ("Olympiastützpunkt Brandenburg")
Please note that applicants with an Indian, Chinese, or Vietnamese school or university degree must submit an APS certificate with their application to uni-assist e.V.
In addition to the above-mentioned documents, the following must be submitted:
- Proof of knowledge in Data Science, Machine Learning, statistical concepts and models, or empirical research processes amounting to at least 12 credit points
- Proof of programming skills in R, Python, Matlab, C++, Java, or another suitable programming language
- Proof in the areas of "Principles of IT-Systems" and "Fundamentals of Programming" or in the areas of "Introduction to Principles of Medicine" and "Fundamentals of Healthcare Systems" amounting to 6 credit points each in the sense of the bridge modules DHBM-IT, DHBM-PR, DHBM-PM, and DHBM-HS according to § 3 No. 2 of the subject-specific access and admission regulations.
- Proof of English language proficiency at least equivalent to level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- The examination board may, upon request from applicants, determine that another proof of English language skills corresponding to at least level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is acceptable. The proof must confirm corresponding abilities in listening and reading comprehension and written expression. Proof of comprehensive and situationally appropriate communication skills that meet the linguistic requirements of an academic stay abroad and study in a country where English is the target language is required.

If applicable, proof of a previous admission claim and service time certificate
If applicable, proof of belonging to the profile quota
If applicable, written request for improvement of waiting time and suitable documents to prove it
If applicable, written request for improvement of average grade and suitable documents to prove it
If applicable, proof of pending or completed asylum procedure
Please note that applicants with an Indian, Chinese, or Vietnamese school or university degree must submit an APS certificate with their application to uni-assist e.V.
In addition to the documents mentioned above, the following must be submitted:
- Applicants who are not German: Proof of German language skills | at least C1 (GER) evidenced by DSH 2 or equivalents
- Motivation letter of a maximum of two A4 pages
- Curriculum vitae
- Proof of special professional achievements such as completed internships, vocational training or employment, awards, and honors
- Proof of final grade or current average grade
- Current/last enrollment certificates for study periods at a German university after obtaining the first professional degree
- Proof of nationality (e.g., copy of passport)
If applicable, written application for immediate admission under the quota for exceptional hardship (hardship application) and suitable documents to prove it
If applicable, proof of a previous admission claim and service time certificate
If applicable, proof of belonging to the profile quota
If applicable, written request for improvement of waiting time and suitable documents to prove it
If applicable, written request for improvement of average grade and suitable documents to prove it
If applicable, proof of pending or completed asylum procedure
Change of university
Do you want to transfer to HPI? Are you or were you already enrolled in a related master's program at another university and now want to transfer? For this, you must apply for credit recognition from the examination board. If you are classified into a higher semester, the informal application is submitted to the respective examination board. Those classified into the first semester apply through uni-assist e.V. (instructions above).
The same procedure applies to international applicants.
