Electronic Colloquia

In order to support and enhance scientific communication, in the early days of WWW, in 1994 we designed a novel type of Internet-based scientific publication channel, which we called "Electronic Colloquium". The idea was that such an electronic colloquium combines the advantages of a preprint servers (in particular, fast publication), and electronic journals (especially editorial selection according to qualitative points of view). The first, meanswhile well established and successful prototype of such an electronic colloquium was and is ECCC, the Electronic Colloquium on Computational Complexity. It was designed in 1994 and is considered meanwhile the highest reputated scientific publication journal in the field of complexity theory. All tasks involved in the reviewing and publication process are supported by a software system that was developed at our chair and can be adapted to the publishing processes and needs of any other field in science.
