Machine learning on electronic health records focused on hypertension and other cardiovascular disease

Suparno Datta

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of deaths worldwide, accounting for 17.3 million deaths per year. Hypertension is known to be the major risk factor for global CVD morbidity and mortality, with an estimated half of the CVD events attributed to it. With the help of advanced machine learning techniques I aim to find what causes the onset of hypertension, what factors lead to complications of hypertension and how it can be better monitored. I work extensively with electronic health records and data generated from wearable sensors, both of which in recent times have proved to be a valuable source of information about the health status of an individual.
