As a Ph.D. student at the Center for Design Research, Mark is exploring the role of cognitive diversity on design teams. It has been long established that multidisciplinary/cross-functional teams have more interesting outcomes; it remains to be seen if this diversity can be measured on a cognitive level. Cognitive neural-typing may also play a role in the evaluation and exchange of information within design groups affecting discussion and decision making.
Mark received his Bachelors in Science from Northwestern University (1975) and an Master in Business Administration from The Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University (1977). After nearly thirty years in industry, at companies like The Procter & Gamble Company and Intuit, Inc, Mark returned to Stanford University to complete a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering - Design. He is also on the teaching team for ME310 Global and new product design course working with corporate sponsors on funding projects.
