In an increasing number of cases, medical experts are able to trace back roots of complex diseases to the specific changes within the human genome. Therefore, the analysis of the genetic code of each patient is the foundation for precision medicine. However, the acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of the patient genome is still time-consuming, e.g. due to manual laboratory work, the sheer amount of generated data, and missing tools support.
Together with life sciences experts, e.g. medical doctors, biologists, and geneticists, researchers of the Hasso Plattner Institute have developed the Analyze Genomes cloud platform. It builds upon latest achievements in in-memory technology to enable new perspectives for precision medicine in the clinical routine. The software platform enables a completely new way of working, e.g. medical experts and researchers are no longer slowed down by long-running data processing steps. Instead they can test and verify their hypotheses in through interactive data analysis on ease-to-use user interfaces. Through the integration and combination with international medical knowledge bases, doctors are no longer bound to their individual expertise but can access latest worldwide medical knowledge in real time. For the patient's sake, treatment decisions can be made faster incorporating latest available worldwide medical knowledge.
