2. Sino-D C-HPC 2012

2. Sino-German Workshop on “Cloud-based High Performance Computing”
October 22-25, 2012, Potsdam, Germany

Introduction:

The remarkable success of the first Sino-German Workshop on Cloud-based High Performance Computing (C-HPC‘11), held on September 26 – October 1, in Shanghai, China, has motivated us to continue with the series in 2012. It was highly appreciated that the workshop C-HPC’11 has obtained strong support from the Sino-German center. We set the theme of the bilateral workshop in this year as “Cloud Computing and HPC in Practice“ and expect from our invited speakers and other participants deep and meaningful discussion on the challenges on how to conveniently, efficiently, and securely provide Cloud Computing and HPC services to the end users. Some interesting issues could be, e.g., how to take full advantage of the competences of Cloud Computing technology for solving the difficult questions in the HPC domain, how to efficiently manage and utilize high performance resources deployed in the cloud environment, how to avoid huge amount of energy consumption for achieving green cloud and HPC, how to protect the privacy of the involving entities and meanwhile guarantee the security of the entire infrastructure and the services it offers, etc. We are grateful to the Chinesisch-Deutsche Zentrum für Wissenschaftsförderung (CDZ, Sino-German Center for Science Foundation, a joint center of DFG & NSFC) to provide us the grant for organizing this workshop.

Goals:

The C-HPC’12 aims at enhancing the collaborative relationships between C-HPC participants, promoting more concrete cooperation, especially, the joint research projects, strengthening performance of research, development and practice as well as improving the academic status and influence of both countries in the area of Cloud Computing and High Performance Computing. The goal of this workshop can be summarized as:

  • Exchange new ideas, research topics, and R&D advancements
  • Identify common interested key issues and specify feasible research routines and methodologies
  • Extend and deepen existing discussions and collaborations since C-HPC’11
  • Propose suitable collaborative research projects targeting at International or National key research plans or programs
