Distance Transformations for Accessibility Mapping in the Public Transport Domain: A Performance Assessment

In this work, we will conduct an experiment to assess accuracy and computation speed of two distance transformation algorithms, capturing the performance range of state-of-the-art distance transformations for application in public transport scenarios. The first one is a fast but possibly inaccurate modified Euclidean Distance transformation implemented on graphics hardware. The second is a slower but very accurate algorithm realised with the PCRaster library, incorporating road network and additional surface constraints.
