The average age of the German population has been increasing steadily and along with it the demand for appropriate elderly care services. However, planning of nursing care services often takes place in an isolated fashion at the district or municipality level. The Elderly Care Registry (ERPEL) is a longitudinal database covering different nursing care services in which current elderly care offers, current capacity and key performance indicators. These indicators enable therefore the systematic collection and appraisal of the status quo, standardized analyses and forecasts across regions, as well as planning tailored to current and future demand.
