HPI d-school combines three areas
Academic Programs - Additional studies in Design Thinking
The HPI d-school - Academic Programs' additional Design Thinking studies are aimed at students of all disciplines and nationalities. It is divided into two semesters: the Foundations for Design Thinking and the advanced Design Thinking Studios.
In addition, the HPI d-school offers the Global Design Thinking Workshop twice a year.
In the three programs, students work in small, multidisciplinary teams on practical problems and are accompanied by experienced Design Thinking coaches.
The Wayfinder program complements the offer with the application of Design Thinking for personal development and career. As part of the Design Thinking Studios, students learn to apply the Design Thinking method in projects with more complex problems such as sustainability, climate change, digital health, open innovation and many more.

Highly motivated and talented students work together with partners from the field to solve complex issues across all industries. Professional Development - further education for professionals
The HPI d-school - Professional Development is the Hasso Plattner Institute's further education provider for professionals with a top-class educational program in Design Thinking, Tech Leadership, Innovation and Digital Transformation. The programs provide the necessary knowledge, mindset and tools to successfully master the challenges of digital transformation.
Our workshops and programs take place as open formats for individuals, but also as customized solutions for teams that are tailored to the needs of your company.

Certification program
Training for creative problem solvers
In a world of rapid technological change, Design Thinking skills are becoming increasingly important to tackle complex challenges in a creative, empathetic and human-centered way. Since 2015, the HPI d-school has trained over 300 coaches to develop innovative solutions for users, companies and our planet.
Our training program to become a Design Thinking Coach consists of three carefully coordinated blocks that provide you with an optimal learning journey. You can choose from three different options depending on your interests and goals:
- Design Thinking Teaching Practitioner (6 days)
- Design Thinking Team Facilitator (13 days)
- Design Thinking Coach (21 days)
The first two blocks (DT Teaching Practitioner and DT Team Facilitator) focus mainly on direct team support (microdidactics). The third block focuses on preparatory and planning coaching activities (macrodidactics).

Discover Design Thinking as an agile strategy to deal effectively with change processes. In a unique learning environment, you can learn from the Design Thinking pioneers of Europe and experience an end-to-end learning experience:
- From Design Thinking novice to expert and coach.

- Learn how to apply design thinking to your innovation challenges and develop the skills to manage the complexity and uncertainty of transformation.
We offer a modular portfolio with training formats and customized modules for strategy and project implementation. These include our strategy workshops, startup safaris and the HPI-X Incubator. On request, we offer you individual project support.
Our coaches have extensive, practical entrepreneurial experience from various economic and social sectors.
With us, you will acquire leadership skills and learn how to coach agile teams. We use state-of-the-art technologies such as VR games. Our methods are based on intent-based, agile and digital leadership practices. We also offer tailor-made programs specifically for your company.

Design Thinking Research and Innovation
The “Design Thinking and Innovation Research” department researches how the adaptation and integration of human-centered design (HCD) and design thinking in companies leads to sustainable business innovations. There is a particular focus on software-driven product, process and service innovations.
We are the Design Thinking hub in Europe
Would you like to develop creative and innovative solutions for complex problems in a goal-oriented way? The Design Thinking innovation approach we teach offers you the right mindset and methods.
With Design Thinking, you promote your agile learning and working culture, which is essential alongside the introduction of digital technologies.
