Information Quality (IQ) is an emerging issue in many scientific areas as well as in the industrial and the governmental areas. Information quality is often poor, but when data is confined to single, isolated contexts, it is easier to handle information quality problems, or even in some cases, to ignore them.
Modern information systems are often the result of multiple systems interacting with each other, exchanging data through special purpose networks or the Internet. Also, single information systems, which are not connected to others, are often no longer closed systems due to interfaces to the Web. When data are exchanged, compared, and shared, there is less tolerance for poor information quality.
Quality of data is not simply their correctness. Information quality (IQ) also includes dimensions, such as completeness, currency, interpretability, consistency, and many others, depending on the context where data are used and also on the data consumers. It follows that obtaining and maintaining data of high quality is a difficult goal. Despite this complexity, the crucial role that information quality has on the competitiveness of organizations requires to face and solve information quality problems.
Within the database and information systems areas, the IQIS workshop will focus on information quality topics. These topics include, but are not limited to:

Accepted paper will be published in the workshop proceedings printed by the University of Rome "La Sapienza". An electronic edition will also appear on the SIGMOD DiSC.
