The Database Group

The Database Group at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam advances the science of database systems. Our research addresses fundamental challenges in data management and engineering data systems. Our work spans the complete data lifecycle, from data preparation and quality assessment to efficient processing and analysis, as well as the complete database system stack, from hardware to applications. Key focus areas include data profiling and integration, hardware-conscious data management, and database architecture. Our innovative solutions are published as widely-used open-source tools and high-impact publications.

In teaching, we provide comprehensive database education through our bachelor's and master's programs. Bachelor students gain hands-on experience through industry projects, while master's students engage in cutting-edge research, often publishing their findings in top-tier academic venues.

We regularly have open positions for PhD students and Postdocs. Please approach any professor for details. Current openings:
