This lecture will be held in a Stanford-like teaching approach. The course is composed of two interwoven parts: technological discussions and a design project. Topics related to the contents of Prof. Plattner's lecture "Trends and Concepts in the Software Industry I" will be taken up and reflected on.
From the design perspective topics include design processes, innovation methodologies, need finding, human factors, prototyping, and team dynamics. Students experience a hands-on project embedded in the technological topics of this course.
After course registration has ended, articles will be published and small groups will be assigned to prepare a short presentation (10 minutes) about topics of selected articles. The assigned topics will be presented prior to the lecture on January 29th.
The block lecture will be held on five days. The first four days include lectures, topic discussions and design parts. Participants will be separated into teams and assigned a topic as well as a design challenge to work on. On the fifth day the results of the design project will be presented including related discussions of the lecture topics.
All participants are encouraged to prepare questions for discussion, which will also help to prepare for their own presentations.
Prof. Plattner's lecture "Trends and Concepts in the Software Industry I" is recommended but not required.
Participants should be familiar with the materials from the summer lecture.
Groupwork, Discussions, Lecture, Multimedia presentations.
Grading will primarily be based on team work in small teams and the presentation of the results. Each team will be assigned specific tasks during the lecture. All topics discussed during the block lecture shall be applied to that task.
- 10% short group presentation (10 minutes) prior to the seminar
- 90% final group presentation (20 minutes + 10 minutes discussion) and individual performance in discussions and group work during the seminar
