Special Offers for Female Students and Scientists

The advancement of woman is a matter of great importance at Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI). Especially in the MINT subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural science and technology), there continues to be a dramatic shortage of female graduates in Germany. Given the lack of specialists in these fields, HPI seeks to counteract this trend.

As part of its promotion of young women, HPI already seeks to particularly address girls in its special programs for pupils. By awarding scholarships and providing a support network for female high school and college students, HPI shows young women how easy it is to become part of a global network of computer scientists. At the same time, HPI demonstrates to young women how much in demand  they are for interesting jobs around the world.

Scholarships for Young Women in Computer Science

Several PhD and postdoc scholarships are offered annually within the HPI Research School.

Two travel grants are available to attend the largest IT fair for women worldwide: the Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing. Travel sponsorships are awarded to students in the German-language computer science study program.

Network “HPI Informatika”

Women who are HPI students, alumni, employees, or simply interested in HPI are invited to join the network at LinkedIn. The objective is to foster the connection and support among members as well as to increase awareness on the topic of women in the IT field in Germany.

Mentoring program

We encourage interested young women to contact our female students, scientists and staff with any questions about the degree program or a profession in the computer science field.

Mentors further assist young women who are just beginning their studies at HPI by providing them with support and advice.
