What is FOGA?

FOGA is a conference that is co-located with COSEAL this year. It is a conference on the theoretical advances of evolutionary algorithms and related randomized search heuristics, like evolutionary strategies, estimation-of-distribution algorithms, and many more.

This talk will provide you with some background to prepare you for the FOGA conference. I will talk about how theoretical results about such algorithms look like, when they can be useful, and what we can learn from them. Apart from a general picture, I will give some concrete examples in which theoretical results have lead to new insights, or to the development of new algorithms or benchmarks. Moreover, I will highlight some related talks of the upcoming FOGA conference, and explain how they fit into the general picture.
