Becoming a Project Partner

Whether in a logistics or media company, a global corporation or a neighborhood association - design thinking helps to develop the processes, products, services and organizations of tomorrow creatively and quickly. At the HPI School of Design Thinking, partner organizations from a wide range of industries meet highly motivated and talented students. In multidisciplinary teams, they develop creative solutions for complex problems in medium-sized and large companies, non-profit organizations or public administration institutions. Our partner organizations come from both home and abroad.

As a partner in a student project, you will work with us to develop a question, the so-called design challenge, which our students will then work on with you. In a working environment that promotes collaboration (Place), our multidisciplinary student teams (People) work on your problems/questions along the design thinking process (Process) and develop innovative, human-centered solutions.

Are you interested in a project partnership with the HPI d-school? Then there are various cooperation options available to you:

In both the summer and winter semesters you can become a partner for an 8-week project (Design Thinking Foundations) or a 16-week project (Design Thinking Studios). Three times a year you also have the opportunity to participate as a partner in one of our Global Design Thinking Workshops (GDTW).

The 8-week project format of the Design Thinking Foundations is particularly suitable for design challenges with a focus on product and service innovations as well as business model concepts. In the 16-week Design Thinking Studios project format, complex design challenges that concern strategies, transformation processes, and the development of new organizational structures can also be worked on.

Design Thinking Studios each have a main topic, which is the focus over a period of two to three years. The first focus topics from 2024 will be “sustainability” and “open innovation”. From 2025, “Digital Health” is planned as a further focus topic. If you want to benefit from individual topics and events with students and experts from the Design Thinking Studios over a period of several years, the membership model offers you the right form of participation.

A project partnership automatically includes membership in a Design Thinking Studio and thus offers the opportunity to get involved in the academic program with students and experts over the long term.
