Beschreibung

This course deals specifically with the problems of Masters and PhD level students.  Here students develop free fluent speaking in communicating complex subject-specific information, assessing and constructing logical arguments for giving successful, professional presentations in their areas of research, and learn to give and receive constructive individualized feedback. Each part of the scientific writing process will be explored and the results will/can be discussed in peer groups to uncover effective strategies towards clarity.  Participants are strongly encouraged and invited to bring their own papers and articles to class for presentation and review.  Using practical examples, the necessary levels of formality, register and tone are analyzed to develop a strategy to reach publication level.  The topics for the course are selected according to the needs analysis.

Developing critical thinking skills guides students through their writing development: from developing a basic thesis and supporting arguments, to the construction of more complex arguments and writing performance expected of students at the graduate level.

The number of participants is limited to best promote customization, effectively accommodate the needs of the students, and be most efficient in a limited 90-minute weekly course offering.
