Model Management (Sommersemester 2011)

Dozent: Prof. Dr. Holger Giese (Systemanalyse und Modellierung) , Dipl.-Inform. Andreas Seibel (Systemanalyse und Modellierung) , M. Sc. Regina Hebig (Systemanalyse und Modellierung)

Beschreibung

Today, aspects of model driven engineering (MDE) are applied in practice comprehensively.

Thereby, development leads to a multitude of models with manifold interrelations between them.

Model Management tackles this complexity. Thereby, goals of the different approaches are the automated derivation of relations, the automated preservation of consistency between models, or guiding of the developer during development.

Basically, all these approaches require the ability to monitor and comprehend actions that are performed during development by recognizing changes on the models.

In our research group we develop a Model Management Framework on the basis of Eclipse and EMF. This framework supports specifying the dependencies between different models. Which dependencies exist, can be decided using different techniques. For example the decision can be made manually or automatically on the basis of information about changes in the models.

The challenge to be addressed by the participants of the seminar is the extension of this framework with further model management techniques. For example:

  • The identification of potential sources for information that can be used to draw a conclusion on dependencies between models
  • The extension with analysis techniques, such as conflict analysis or impact analysis
  • The extension with visualization techniques (e.g. GMF)

The concepts that are developed in this seminar should be implemented prototypically within the Model Management Framework.

Voraussetzungen

Fundamental knowledge in the following areas is recommended:

  • Modeling
  • Java
  • Eclipse & EMF

Lern- und Lehrformen

This course is a project seminar with focus on technical and conceptual constraints as well as the implementation of the concepts.

There will be an introductory course. Thereby, the idea of the project and necessary basics are presented. Further, the seminar themes are presented. During seminar, we offer individual supervision about the seminar themes. The project finishes with a presentation of the results.

Leistungserfassung

We will grade the implementation of the individual themes as well as the documentation.
