Forecasting Mental Earthquakes (ForME)

Dr. Hanna Drimalla

The ForME-project, started in 2018, aims to predict acute psychological crisis (“mental earthquakes”) based on smartphone data. It focusses on signals that allow most actionable insight, are easy to collect, and have highest predictive value: meta-information about calls and messages (-> social integration) and voice quality and breathing (-> stress). Based on this indicator, we aim to detect critical changes in the individuals’ behavior (social & physiological) that precede the mental earthquake. For the detection, we develop new machine learning algorithms that integrate multimodal time-series with graphs and detect anomalies in such highly complex streams.
