Lecture by Prof. Cabirio Cautela entitled: "Italian design, from the arts & craft masters to the meaning innovators"

What are the roots of Italian design? To which extent does Italian Design differ from the worldwide diffused innovation approach known as “Design Thinking”? Is there a new Italian way of design, after the advent of the Italian Design of the 60’s and 70’s?  In a less than one-hour journey, Cabirio Cautela will recall the main principles of Italian Design, connecting it to some key-principles in the “design mode” of different high pace innovating companies (as Apple, Nintendo, Vibram). In conclusion some highlights will be shown about the relationship between design and new forms of entrepreneurship.

Prof. Cabirio Cautela

Cabirio Cautela is Full Professor at Politecnico di Milano – Design Department and PhD in Business Management. He was Visiting Scholar at Stanford University – CDR (Center for Design Research) in 2012. His research topics deal with the strategic role of design, design management processes and how design generates new business models and new ventures. He is currently Director of the Master in Strategic Design and Research Director of the Observatory of Design Thinking for business in Politecnico di Milano. Yearly he teaches at the Politecnico di Milano Design School, at POLI.Design Consortium, at MIP-Politecnico Business School and in other international schools as Visiting Professor. His last articles were published by journals including Creativity and Innovation Management, Industry and Innovation, Technovation, International Entrepreneurship and Management Journal, Design Issues, International Journal of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management, Design Management Review.
