The Chair for Digital Global Public Health, led by Prof. Dr. Lothar H. Wieler, addresses global health challenges with a strong focus on prevention and reducing disease burden. Drawing on insights from COVID-19—particularly in behavior, ethics, and communication—the Chair takes a holistic, forward-looking approach that leverages technological advances to study social determinants of health, antimicrobial resistance, viral infections, and rare neurogenetic conditions.
A central priority is advancing precision public health to enable more informed decision-making and risk assessment. The team develops and evaluates digital health interventions rooted in evidence-based communication and positive psychology, while also critically examining the ethical dimensions of AI in public health. Alongside advanced methods such as federated analysis, predictive modeling, and natural language processing, their findings are strengthened through complementary experimental wet-lab studies.
