Beschreibung

Using the theme of Ethics in the field of computer science and information technology, this course challenges students to further develop their language skills in the areas of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Participants consolidate their grammar knowledge and extend their critical reading and thinking skills beyond the construction and writing of a short essay.

Students will learn to express an opinion, develop a persuasive argument and deliver constructive criticism, as well as discover differences between their personal and professional comfort zones and beliefs in many controversial areas, including but not limited to internet privacy, drone technology, social media and freedom of speech. Students are encouraged to investigate a controversial area relative to their area of study.

The number of participants is limited to best promote customization, effectively accommodate the needs of the students, and be most efficient in a limited 90-minute weekly course offering.

Leistungserfassung

Final grade is one-third debate performance, one-third listening comprehension exam, and one-third essay.
