Algorithmic Decision Making and Society

Welcome

Welcome to our research group! Founded in 2024, we explore how to quantify and guarantee fairness in algorithmic decisions that affect multiple people. Using an interdisciplinary approach that bridges AI, economics, and theoretical computer science, we ground our methods in rigorous theory to address real-world challenges.

To build AI that is not only powerful but truly serves society, algorithmic decisions must fairly reflect the diverse preferences and needs of all those affected.

Reasearch Areas

  • Social Choice How can we aggregate different opinions into a fair collective decision? Our research designs and analyzes provably fair aggregation mechanisms, with applications in large-scale civic participation systems.
  • AI Fairness How can we test whether algorithms’ decisions are fair? Our research develops formal axiomatic frameworks to evaluate algorithmic fairness and design explanation systems for AI selection systems.
  • Resource Allocation How can we allocate scarce resources fairly and effectively? Our research develops allocation methods and fairness axioms with applications to sequential allocation problems in uncertain environments such as public health.
