Bio
I am a Juniorprofessor (Assistant Professor with Tenure Track) for Algorithmic Decision Making and Society at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), University of Potsdam.
My research bridges theoretical computer science, game theory, and AI to design algorithms that make fair and transparent decisions for groups of individuals with competing interests. This work encompasses preference aggregation, fairness in AI selection systems, and the allocation of scarce resources. A central concern in my research is defining what makes a solution desirable and fair.
My long-term goal is to achieve positive societal impact by developing and applying algorithmic methods grounded in rigorous theoretical research. I aim to do both foundational (theoretical) research, resulting in practically relevant messages, and to develop mechanisms for specific applications. I especially value interdisciplinary work at the intersection of computer science and social sciences.
I completed a postdoc at Harvard University with Milind Tambe, working on AI for Social Good, and earned a PhD in theoretical computer science at TU Berlin under the supervision of Rolf Niedermeier and Markus Brill. My work has been recognized by several awards, including the 2023 Victor Lesser Distinguished Dissertation Award, the Best Student Paper Award at AAMAS 2023, and the Best Paper Award at WINE 2020.
