Description

Informationen im Hinblick auf die aktuelle Corona-Krise: Der Kurs wird als Online-Format stattfinden. (Stand: 09.09.2020)

Specialists in the field of computer science and information technology often develop programs and systems for other parts of a business organization: developing leadership assessment or  teambuilding tools for human resources, monitoring throughput for production, calibrating metrics for research and development, implementing environmental controls for an industrial complex, or determining customer preferences for a newly-developed product.

In this ONLINE course, each student will use a case study analysis platform to work on a business problem in an area of their choosing: defining the problem, proposing a solution, and supporting why the proposal is an optimal solution based on the given information.  In this context, the student has the opportunity to strengthen their English language skills, as well as practice their rhetoric, critical thinking and problem solving abilities to not only apply technical knowledge more effectively, but also be a more proficient communicator.

Each student will present their business case study analysis orally before their peers, as well as convert their oral case study analysis presentation into a written analysis.  Students will also work in small groups to give peer feedback on academic writing style, rhetorical constructions and critical thinking abilities in analysing business case studies.

Each student will also complete an independent study portfolio of their own creation, selecting from available online study materials to expand their vocabulary, strengthen their grammar knowledge and practice, increase their language comprehension, as well as sharpen their writing skills.

The number of participants is limited to encourage maximally effective learning in a 90-minute ONLINE weekly course offering.

STUDENTS MUST BE ENROLLED IN THIS CLASS IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE ONLINE.  Each student will be sent a link to the online classroom once they have enrolled.

Examination

Final course grade is one-third online oral presentation, one-third independent study portfolio, and one-third final written case study analysis.
