Description

Within this seminar we want to discuss how currently used software solutions, their application patterns as well as the underlying structures of the German public health sector can be optimized. We will look at regulatory restrictions, technological heterogeneity and the hierarchy of the public health responsibilities.

Requirements

This is a seminar for students who are already have deep familiarity (on the code base) with common software solutions in the public health sector (including at minimum Demis, Demis lite, Sormas) as well as the organizational structure from local to national to European level in the public health sector. In this seminar, we want to skip the basics and discuss on a very high level. If there is interest by newcomers to the field, we may offer a seminar in the next semester focusing on basics.
Further, we require expert programming skills (on the level of the highly successful completion of a HPI bachelor project or above).

Learning

  • Seminar for master students
  • Language of instruction: English
  • Maximum number of participants: 3 (already full)

Topics will be presented in the first Session (November 3, 2020). For topic assignments, participants will have to write an E-Mail by Nov 10th, 2020 in which they can give preferences for up to 3 of the presented topics. Then, the topics will be assigned by us. In case of too many applicants, we will decide randomly.
The seminar will be conducted virtually via zoom (we can provide room for those on campus).

Examination

In the seminar, each participant will give a presentation about a predefined topic within the research area of truth discovery and write a short report. The final grade consists of the following three parts:

  • Presentation (40%)
  • Written report (60%)
