Short Bio

PD Dr. Irina Catrinel Crăciun is a psychologist whose work bridges research, teaching, and practice. She specializes in health psychology, developmental psychology, cognitive behavioral therapy, and positive psychology, with a particular focus on health communication, health promotion, healthy ageing, and human development across the lifespan. 

She completed her PhD in Health Psychology at Freie Universität Berlin under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Ralf Schwarzer and later obtained her habilitation in Psychology at Freie Universität Berlin. Her research has addressed a wide range of topics, including global mental health, women’s health, ageing, behavior change, and health inequalities across diverse cultural contexts. She is also the author of several books on development in middle and older adulthood.

At the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI), Dr. Crăciun focuses on storytelling for health. She leads the Digital Story Lab, where she develops and applies innovative approaches to health communication through digital storytelling. Within the Digital Story Lab, she coordinates the development of the StoryQ framework and the StoryHelper platform, supporting the creation of evidence-based health stories that promote behavior change and improve health literacy in a global context.
