Beschreibung
Welcome to our Bachelor Seminar!
Contents:
IPv6 is the next generation of the Internet Protocol which supersedes its predecessor IPv4. IPv6 comes with new features and functionality that makes it backward incompatible with IPv4. Therefore, several mechanisms have been proposed to allow for the smooth transition of IPv6 into current networks. The current deployment of IPv6 should be carried out in an efficient and secure manner so that the functionality and security of the Internet is not adversely affected. This seminar will discuss several aspects of this deployment and several deployment scenarios and it will recommend the best practices to be followed.
This seminar will cover the following topics but not limited:
(Introductory slides available in the following address \\fs3\lehrveranstaltungen\Seminar_IPv6SecurityAspects_SS2012\)
- IPv6 addressing
- Neighbor discovery and the auto-configuration process
- Different tunneling methods over an IPv4 network
- Firewalls for IPv6 networks
- DNS for IPv6
- DHCPv6
- Configuring and analyzing IPv6 routing
- And others.
Organization:
- This seminar (3 ECTS Credit Points) is organized by: Prof. Dr. Christoph Meinel, Ahmad AlSa’deh, and Hosnieh Rafiee
- Regular meetings will be held on Tuesday from 17:00 to 18:30.
- Location: HPI, Room H-2.58
- The first organizational meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 17:00.
- To register for this seminar please send a brief email to (ahmad(dot)alsadeh(at)hpi(dot)uni-potsdam.de and rafiee(at)hpi(dot)uni-potsdam.de) before October 31, 2012
- Expectations from students
- Participants are expected to attend all sessions. If you are not able to attend, please let us know per email beforehand.
- Each groups of students will be given a topic on an existing implementation which they should research and test and then give a presentation and write a paper
- Demonstrate how you tested your scenario
- Give a presentation in English about your topic. You will have 30 minutes in which to explain your topic to your fellow classmates who will then be given 10 minutes in which to discuss and comment on your presentation.
- Everyone is expected to participate actively after each presentation. Discussion with challenging questions is highly encouraged.
- Submit an 8-10 page (Springer format) report which analyzes your assigned topic. The report is due 3 weeks after your presentation. The report should discuss the assigned topic, showing its deployment and security aspects, and your suggestions and comments for best practice, etc.
Voraussetzungen
- Experience with IPv4 Network is expected
- A good knowledge of networking concepts is assumed
