Maximilian Katzmann, a PhD student with the Algorithm Engineering group, was awarded this-years President's prize for best thesis (Examenspreis des Präsidenten) of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Friedrich Schiller University Jena. He received the prize for his master's thesis on Hyperbolic Embeddings for Near-Optimal Greedy Routing at the ceremonial opening of the new academic year, October 25.The thesis layed the foundation to a homonymous research paper at the 20th Meeting on Algorithm Engineering and Experiments (ALENEX 2018) which in turn was deemed worthy of inclusion into a special issue of the Journal of Experimental Algorithmics.
He is the third student after Arne Ludwig (2014) and Martin Schirneck (2016) receiving a prize for a thesis written at the Friedrich Schiller University under the supervision of Tobias Friedrich.
Congratulations!
