Prof. Dr. Pischon is a physician and epidemiologist by training. After obtaining his medical and epidemiology/public health degrees from Freie and Technische Universität Berlin, and habilitation from Charité, he worked at the Harvard School of Public Health from 2001-2004 as a researcher in nutrition and epidemiology. From 2004-2010, he was at the German Institute for Nutrition (DIfE) in Potsdam-Rehbrücke, first as scientist, and then as a group leader. Since 2010 he is a professor for Molecular Epidemiology at the Charité in Berlin, group leader at the Max Delbrück Center for Molecular Medicine, and also leads and coordinates the study center Berlin-Nord of the German National Cohort study (NAKO). The NAKO is a large ongoing cohort study investigating 200,000 participants in 18 study centers all across Germany and constitutes a major resource for population-based health-related research in Germany. We are looking forward to hearing from Dr. Pischon both about his epidemiological research (in the fields of nutrition, molecular epidemiology, cardiometabolic traits and cancer) as well as about the NAKO as a resource for population-based research.
