Article in Directions Magazine on Service-oriented Visualization of Virtual 3D City Models

Jan Klimke published an article on “Service-oriented Visualization of Virtual 3D City Models” in Direction Magazine. It describes an approach for the visualization of and interaction with large virtual 3D city models and how this can serve as a basis for the integration of additional (dynamic) geodata. The approach is based on server-side rendering, service-based provision of that finally rendered views on a 3D scene (via Web View Services), and various clients that allow users to explore this massive data even on less-powerful devices such as smart phones and tablets.

Jan Klimke is a PhD student at our Computer Graphics Systems working group and member of the HPI Research School on Service-oriented Computing.

3D Direction Magazine is “the leading source of information, news and commentary in the fields of geospatial and location-based technologies”.
