The tutorial proposal "Artistic Stylisation of Images and Video" by John Collomosse (University of Surrey) and Jan Eric Kyprianidis (Hasso-Plattner-Institut) has been accepted for presentation at the 32nd annual conference of the European Association for Computer Graphics (Eurographics 2011).
The half-day tutorial provides an introduction to Non-Photorealistic Rendering (NPR), targeted at both students and experienced researchers of Computer Graphics who have not previously explored NPR in their work. The tutorial focuses on two-dimensional (2D) NPR, specifically the transformation of photos or videos into synthetic artwork, e.g., paintings and cartoons. Consequently the course will touch not only on computer graphics topics, but also on the image processing and computer vision techniques that drive such algorithms. However the latter concepts will be introduced gently and no prior knowledge is assumed beyond a working knowledge of filtering and convolution operations. Some elements of the course will touch upon GPU implementation, but GPU concepts will be described at a high level of abstraction without need for detailed working knowledge of GPU programming.
The conference will be held from the 12th to 15th April and will take place in the town of Llandudno in Wales, UK at Venue Cymru.
