It was only in March of this year that Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) and the Mount Sinai Health System announced the founding of their joint research institute: Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Health at Mount Sinai (HPI.MS) in New York. The goal of the cooperation is to further expand research in the area of digital medicine and to advance the development of digital health applications for improved health care.

Meinel thanked Charney for his engagement and valuable support in the founding of the HPI.MS joint research institute in New York. The unique cooperation is already starting to bear fruit, said Meinel; just a few months after its founding, the new Institute successfully launched first research projects in the areas of cardiovascular medicine, prevention and neuropsychiatric diseases.

In addition to Prof. Charney, thirteen other prominent personalities have been named HPI Fellows. They include German Chancellor Angela Merkel, EU Commissioner Günther Oettinger and past EU Commissioner Neelie Kroes, the two “fathers of the Internet” Bob Kahn and Vinton Cerf, as well as former Minister Presidents of Brandenburg Manfred Stolpe and Matthias Platzeck.
