The department of Digital Technology, Governance and Policy was established at the Hasso Plattner Institute in October 2023. It is led by Prof. Dr. Gillian Bolsover. The academic focus of the Digital Technology, Governance and Policy department is on the impact of digital technology on politics and society. The team’s research foci include: 

• Misinformation, propaganda and online influence operations 

• Populism, extremism and political violence 

• Polarization and inequality 

• Quality and strength of democracies and authoritarian diffusion
