Abstract
Multidisciplinary teamwork is a key requirement in the design thinking approach to engineering innovation. However, the tools available for effective team coaching are limited to heuristics derived from either experienced design thinking professionals or clinical psychology practitioners. Our proposed research aims to improve this current situation by providing design thinking practitioners, coaches and instructors a scientific tool for real-time augmentation of design team performance. The proposed research will use a visual notation system called the Interaction Dynamics Notation as the basis for a visual diagnostic instrument for design teams. It will deliver
- A computer‐based diagnostic instrument for analyzing real-time design thinking team interactions, and
- An atlas of interaction patterns and a paired set of real-time interventions that would improve team performance.
