Marie Klooker

Marie studied Arts and Cultural Theory in Maastricht, Madrid and Berlin, and Design Thinking in Potsdam. After her undergraduate studies she worked for the cultural program department at the Goethe-Institut in Madrid and during her Master as assistant at an art gallery in Berlin. Marie focused her studies on perceptual strategies as well as creativity and spatial theory. She is especially interested in how cultural change happens and strongly believes that space acts as a major driver for change. At D-School Marie found a way to approach creativity from in a practical way. Fascinated by Design Thinking as creative method to solve complex problems, she wrote her Master thesis about the rationalization of creativity.

Marie teaches in the academic program of HPI School of Design Thinking and as PhD Candidate within the Hasso Plattner Design Thinking Research Program she investigates the spatial factors of creativity and innovation. Applying a broad notion of the term space, she is interested in its multiple dimensions and their interrelations, hence how space is formed through physical and cultural aspects. In a case study with several companies, she investigates how spatial interventions in form of setting up a creative lab and/or redesigning the traditional workspace initiates cultural change towards fostering creativity and innovation.
