Enabling Innovations in Human-Robot Interaction with Low-cost Embedded Platforms (Stanford)

PI: Prof. Mark Horowitz

Abstract

We propose to create an embedded platform provisioned with a set of software tools/libraries that use softwaredriven hardware design to embed knowledge about how to design, test and debug robot interaction hardware into the software development environment. Embedding this type of knowledge for a general area is very difficult, so we target human-robot interactions for our prototype. Whereas previous systems have focused on enabling commonality amongst relatively sophisticated robotics hobbyists and professionals, we will be targeting people who are novices to programming and electronics, on the assumption that these populations have different perspectives and insights to bring to the design of device interactions.
