Bicycle Data Hackathon

About

Past event

Data, ideas, innovation – for an integrated transport revolution in Potsdam!

Together, we want to develop new ideas, program innovative solutions, and learn from each other. Whether you are an experienced programmer, a creative mind, or an enthusiastic cyclist – everyone is welcome!

The Bike Data Hackathon is part of the Smart City model project of the state capital Potsdam and is closely linked to the projects for integrated transport transition. Over these two days, we will create an open, creative framework to advance the planning and use of bicycle traffic in Potsdam based on data. Partners from the fields of mobility, data management, and Design Thinking will be participating:

  • DB Rad+
  • Stadtwerke Potsdam GmbH
  • proWissen Potsdam e.V.
  • DB InfraGo AG
  • HPI d-school
  • FH Potsdam

The challenges

The hackathon will focus on three challenges:

Challenge 1 – Urban Data Platform

The City of Potsdam's Urban Data Platform (UDP) has been in pilot operation since this year and, as the digital heart of the smart city, provides a wide variety of data from areas such as utilities, health, construction, mobility, and the economy. How can the data available via the UDP for the hackathon be used for cycling measures? How can the experiences of other cities be utilized?

Challenge 2 – Rad+ app

Almost 20 million kilometers have already been collected in Potsdam and Berlin – and we want more! How can Rad+ usage be further increased through interesting features and stories? How can combinations with other traffic data be used to make qualified statements about the use of roads and paths by bicycle traffic?

Challenge 3 – Sensors and tinkering

Potsdam is a smart city that uses sensor technology. This means that sensors are used in traffic to collect and process information about the traffic environment. Which sensors can help to collect further data that is interesting for cyclists? There are no limits to your creativity here, because you can also tinker with real sensors in the hackathon!

Three good reasons to participate

Inspiration & ideas

Network with other participants at POTSDAM LAB, work together in teams, and be inspired by ideas on topics such as design thinking, Rad+ and data visualization.

All-inclusive catering & networking

Catering will be provided throughout the hackathon. There will be exciting ideas and workshop exercises throughout the day.

Jury awards & recognition

The three best ideas will be awarded prizes by a jury consisting of experts from the public and private sectors.
