Vice President Sinan Selen was born in Istanbul/Turkey in 1972. He studied law at the University of Cologne, specializing in domestic and judicial policy in Europe/European law.
From 2000 to 2006, he held various positions in the Federal Criminal Police Office in the field of state security and personal protection.
At the end of 2006, he moved to the Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community, where he was appointed head of the "Foreign Terrorism and Foreign Extremism" division in the Counter-Terrorism Unit.
From 2009 to 2012, he worked at the Federal Police Headquarters as a permanent representative of the Head of the Department for Combating Crime and during this time dealt with the topics of smuggling crime and combating piracy, among others. From 2012, he was responsible for operational counter-terrorism issues in the Public Security Department of the Federal Ministry of the Interior.
In 2016, Selen moved to the TUI Group, where he set up a group-wide security structure.
He has been Vice President at the BfV since January 21, 2019.
He is responsible for the areas of counterintelligence and cyber counterintelligence, Islamism and Islamist terrorism, right-wing extremism/terrorism, left-wing extremism/terrorism, foreign-related extremism, measures under Article 10 of the Basic Law and surveillance.
