General Information

Vision

The aims of this seminar are two-fold. On the one hand, we want you to become an expert on a particular topic from the broad area of bioinformatcs. On the other hand, we want you to learn how to write a research paper, i.e. we will teach you relevant topics for your writing, such as the general structure of research papers, best practices, and good writing styles.

Your general task will be to get familiar with your topic, prepare a presentation about it, and write a research paper. For the paper, we will provide you with the necessary knowledge and supervise you during collection of necessary material and writing. We want you to gain hands-on experience on the subject, which includes conducting small experiments with state-of-the-art bioinformatic tools, as well as examining and discussing their results, e.g. regarding runtime performance or data quality.

Grading

The final grading will be determined by the following individual parts, while each part must be passed at least:

  • Seminar presentation (40%)
  • Research article (40%)
  • Individual commitment (20%)
