D-Flect: With Design Thinking towards a WeQ Economy and Culture

We are happy to invite you to our upcoming D-Flect session, which will take place on Thursday, July 4 2019 at the HPI School of Design Thinking. This time we look forward to welcoming Peter Spiegel, futurologist and head of the WeQ-Institute and his talk “With Design Thinking towards a WeQ Economy and Culture: How can WeQ Learning enable transformation?”

Since the foundation of the HPI School of Design Thinking in Potsdam, Peter Spiegel and HPI D-School Director Uli Weinberg have been collaborating closely. They share the vision of promoting a profound cultural change in economy, education and society – from an “I”-mode to a “We”-mode. To tackle this change, Design Thinking is more than a process method for them.

Among more than 200 individual trends such as Open Source, Co-Creation, Social Innovation or Circular Economy, Peter Spiegel discovered the mega trend of moving from competitive towards collaborative thinking and working as well as to more societal responsibility in 2014. He named this trend “WeQ” meaning “More than IQ”.

Together with Uli Weinberg, Gerald Hüther and others he founded the WeQ Foundation and re-named his Genesis Institute, which was founded in 2008, into WeQ Institute.

His next vision was to integrate the WeQ cultural change into the education landscape. To do so, he founded the “EduAction Bildungsgipfel”, which became the biggest and most influential conference on innovation in education in Germany right away.

Peter Spiegel took the next step in 2018 with the initiative “Economy to WeQ Economy”. In his D-Flect talk, he will give an impulse on WeQ Economy and illustrate the key role Design Thinking plays in its context.

We will discuss how WeQ approaches such as Design Thinking, WeQ competencies and values as well as its implementations can be conveyed to large parts of society. It is a about “WeQ Learning” as a comprehensive and wide movement throughout the whole of society.

To accompany this debate, participants of the Design Thinking Basic Track program are hosting a workshop on 7 July 2019 from 9:00-5:00pm at the HPI D-School.
