Rethinking Business

Design Thinking at the SAP Executive Summit

Under the motto "Rethinking Business" the top-class international customer event “SAP Executive Summit” was held at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) for about 200 decision makers from different industries.

Design Thinking with its three core elements “the place, the process and the people” was a central part of it. The participants got the unique opportunity to experience Design Thinking “live” as a driver for innovation and were involved actively as idea providers, experts and testers.
In a fast forward process two multidisciplinary teams worked on the challenge “Rethink boardrooms” showing the whole iterative process in one day. The team members were alumni of the HPI School of Design Thinking and students of the HPI’s ME310 project, a worldwide cooperation between universities (a. o. HPI, Stanford).

The workshop was held in the "Workspace of the Future", a temporary Design Thinking-space that the D-School has developed together with the Berlin companies System 180 and Zendome. The newly designed space offered a confined and at the same time open, inviting work atmosphere as well as the ideal integration of a Design Thinking-exhibition. The feedback of the Summit’s participants was very positive. Bill McDermott, Co-CEO of SAP, was enthusiastic and commented on the SAP Executive Summit: "My favorite part what the Design Thinking-experience with the students."
