The white paper “AI & Design Thinking - The Creative Alliance” by Samuel Tschepe and Selina Mayer examines the interplay between artificial intelligence (AI) and design thinking as the key to innovative solutions. It describes the rapid development of AI - from its beginnings in the 1950s through setbacks such as the “AI winter” to today's breakthroughs through deep learning. AI now has a wide range of applications, from voice assistants to recommendation systems, but is also experiencing ethical controversies, for example regarding data protection and fairness.
ChatGPT, which has been considered a turning point in AI development since 2022, is highlighted in particular. The authors present five theses that shed light on the potential of cooperation between AI and design thinking. The aim is to use both approaches in a synergistic relationship that combines technological efficiency with human empathy and thus enables sustainable innovation.
