Globalization brings great advantages for companies. At the same time, however, the risk of online attacks and information losses is increasing enormously. In a large company like Uniper, simply using services and protocols are often not enough. Every single employee must be informed about the importance of cybersecurity (CS) and be familiar with the right measures in case of digital threats.
This is where the HPI D-School student team came in. First, they tried to understand how employees and managers perceive cybersecurity at Uniper. Then they investigated what kind of cybersecurity training was currently taking place and why it often did not have the desired effect.
Talking to employees from a wide range of industries, the team found that CS trainings were often perceived as an additional burden. They felt quite dry and there was no emotional connection to the topic. Individual employees did not feel responsible for the company's cybersecurity. However, since the pandemic has pushed every company to become completely digital, every single employee needs to be aware of CS. To facilitate this process, the Design Thinking team suggested using gamification. After many discussions, including with gamification and CS experts, they created the idea for Cyber Tiger.
Cyber Tiger is an intuitive learning platform created to teach practical and tangible knowledge about CS with fun videos and exercises in the sense of “Edutainment”. Cyber Tiger supports the user when a problem occurs to reduce unnecessary time investment. The main goal of the tool is to develop responsible and independent problem-solving skills within a digital environment.
After the presentation of Cyber Tiger by the Design Thinking team, Infosys Limited’s Chief Information Security Officer, Vishaal Salvi decided to scale up the idea to industry usage level and release Cyber Tiger not only in Infosys but also as solutions for all of Infosys’s clients. In addition to this, Infosys and HPI D-School are planning a long-term collaboration for future innovation projects in different areas.
You can find further details about this Design Thinking project, including video interviews with the students and project partner, in a story on the Infosys website.
