Apply now for Design Thinking in the 2022 summer semester

The application phase for the summer semester of 2022 at the HPI D-School has started. We invite students and graduates from all disciplines and universities to apply for our academic Design Thinking programs until January 31st, 2022. In the upcoming semester, we will again be holding the programs in a hybrid learning format.

Basic Track at HPI D-School

Within the academic Design Thinking training at the HPI D-School you learn creative and networked thinking as an innovative approach and apply it in cooperation with project partners from companies, NGOs and political institutions. Together with international students from a wide range of disciplines, you will develop innovative solutions for practical problems in small teams.

Design Thinking in the hybrid space

Since March 2020, we have developed entirely new virtual programs for our Basic Track and Advanced Track students as well as for the Global Design Thinking Workshop (GDTW) and the Wayfinder program. Design Thinking in a hybrid space combines a virtual format with on-site work in the Design Thinking rooms of the HPI D-School.

Hybrid space at HPI D-School

Within this innovative format, we give students access to the Design Thinking spaces with hybrid technology at the HPI D-School, and use digital tools such as the virtual whiteboard Miro and our online learning platform openHPI for the virtual part of the program. Physical presence in Potsdam is generally not required for participation in the Basic Track in the summer semester of 2022. Please note that all participants need to actively participate on the program days in the CEST time zone.

Basic Track in summer semester 2022

As part of the academic training in Design Thinking, students acquire the necessary skills to help shape the future successfully. The Basic Track offers an introduction to the methods and mindset of the innovative approach. The course takes place on two obligatory program days (Tuesdays and Fridays) per week and consists of live inputs from our program and coaching teams as well as teamwork in the digital space. The small, diverse teams are always accompanied in their work process by a Design Thinking coach.

In an exchange with each other, students go through different phases of the innovation process and develop creative ideas and human-centered prototypes. They learn to establish an open culture of failure as a necessary part of solution development.

Information about the Basic Track application

We are looking forward to receiving your applications for the Basic Track until January 31st, 2022, via our online platform. For a successful application, we need the following documents:

- Curriculum vitae
- Certificate of enrollment
- T-Profile

The so-called “T-profile” on the one hand, represents your expertise in a specific field (through the vertical part of the letter “T”). In addition to your academic education, you also have many complementary skills and interests and a broad general knowledge (shown in the horizontal section of the “T”). You can individually design your “T-profile” as text, picture, photo, or other.

Many “T-shaped people” meet at the HPI School of Design Thinking: Here, you can work collaboratively beyond disciplinary boundaries and use your skills creatively together with others.

You can find further information and important dates about the Basic Track application on our website.
