Preparations are in full swing! From September 12 to 19, 2027, the Hasso Plattner Institute will host one of the world's most prestigious competitions for high school students: the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI). Around 400 students, accompanied by approximately 200 team leaders, will take part to tackle complex algorithmic challenges at the highest level. They will be joined by guides, jury members, committee members, and international representatives. A total of up to 1,000 participants from 90 to 100 countries are expected in Potsdam.
About the International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI)
The International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) has been the world's most important computer science competition for students since 1989. Every year, around 90–100 countries take part and send their four best young talents. The IOI is not only a competition, but also a platform for cultural exchange and international networking – a place where host countries and universities can make an impression on the brightest minds and offer guidance on choosing a course of study or career.
After Egypt (2024), Bolivia (2025), and Uzbekistan (2026), the Olympiad will return to Germany in 2027 – the last time this happened was in 1992. The HPI organizes the Olympiad in cooperation with Bundesweite Informatikwettbewerbe (BWINF).
