Research School "Systems Design"

Scientific Topic:  

The design and implementation of modern, practical, and interesting software systems raises a multitude of research questions from several fields such as software and domain engineering, system modeling and analysis, application adaptability and integration, human computer interaction, security, and sustainability. 

To be and remain useful to their users, software systems not only need to offer the functionality desired or required in an approachable way, but must do so in a way fitting their application context and their operational constraints. 

"Systems Design” represents an engaging symbiosis of proven research frameworks to address this challenge, integrating the points-of-views of multiple research communities and allowing for an interconnected approach to state-of-the-art computer science research. 

Internal Evaluation Procedures: 

PhD students closely interact with their primary and secondary advisors on a regular basis to advance their research efforts. In those interactions they present their work, explore directions, and get advice.  

International collaborations:  

PhD students are invited to participate in and shape HPI’s international research efforts and partnerships. Moreover, they are encouraged to contribute to and support the international research collaborations of the chairs of their respective advisors. 

Regular Meetings & Events: 

PhD students present their work, research interests, and discoveries and findings to their fellow members and involved faculty in regular joint meetings. They organize symposia and retreats to further their exchange within and outside of our research school.
