Computational Interaction

The Computational Interaction (CIx) Group develops models of human perception, cognition, and motor control, grounded in computational principles of Human-Computer Interaction.

Working at the intersection of human–computer interaction, machine learning, and cognitive and biomechanical modeling, our computational models simulate human-like interaction behavior. These models enable intelligent systems to think and act like humans, support the evaluation of user interfaces, predict user interactions, and help designers and researchers better understand both users and their designs.

Our modeling approaches span data-driven methods, grounded in real-world usage data or controlled experimental studies, as well as theory-driven approaches based on computational rationality and reinforcement learning. Key application areas include graphical user interfaces, intelligent transportation systems and automated cars, mobile interfaces, and XR interfaces.
