You have applied for the master's program in Computer Science at the joint faculty of HPI and the University of Potsdam and want to know what happens next? Whether you are already familiar with HPI from your bachelor's degree or are completely new to the campus, there is always something new to discover!
On this page, we have summarized all the important steps for you, from submitting your application to your first days on campus to the first exam phase. This will make the transition from bachelor's to master's degree very easy!
You can apply to start your studies during this period. The application period for starting in the winter semester runs from April 1 to June 1. For starting in the summer semester, the application period is from November 1 to December 1.
You can find all the necessary information here. Applications are submitted via PULS. No documents can be submitted after the application deadline, even in exceptional cases.
The University of Potsdam makes admission letters for the Computer Science program available via PULS. For students starting in the winter semester, letters are typically sent around mid-July. For students starting in the summer semester, letters are typically sent around mid-January.
You must accept your spot in the program within the timeframe specified in your admission letter; otherwise, it will expire. You can confirm your acceptance through PULS.
We will email you a welcome letter with all the important information you need to begin your studies.
You can enroll at the University of Potsdam via PULS during the enrollment period.
For the winter semester, enrollment is open from August 15 to October 15, and for the summer semester, enrollment is open from February 15 to April 15.
The winter semester begins on October 1 and the summer semester begins on April 1, though classes don't start until later. As of today, you are officially a Master's student at the Hasso Plattner Institute!
The program manager and the Student Council welcome you to campus. Together with the institute's management, research groups, faculty, and administration, we will show you everything you need to know about the institute, campus, and your degree program. Our goal is to help you settle in and get off to a good start. The program includes a campus tour, an introduction to everyday university life and contacts at HPI, an overview of the infrastructure, receiving your access credentials, and, of course, an opportunity to meet your new classmates.
You will also learn which courses are available in the first semester, how to register for courses at HPI, and how the degree program tracks are structured.
You will receive an invitation by email after you have accepted your spot in the program.
You must apply for enrollment at the University of Potsdam via PULS by October 15 for the winter semester and by April 15 for the summer semester.
To ensure a smooth start to the semester, however, you should complete this process by the end of the previous month.
Winter semester courses begin in mid-October, and summer semester courses begin in mid-April. Depending on your interests, you can attend the first classes that align with your desired track.
For the winter semester, you must register for your courses on the MyCampus portal by October 30; for the summer semester, by April 30.
Phase IV: Ready for your first exam?
You must register for each exam on MyCampus at least eight days before the exam date. You may cancel your registration up to two days before the exam.
Remember to re-enroll for the upcoming semester in a timely manner! Starting in mid-January for the summer semester and mid-June for the winter semester, you can access all the dates and amounts due in your PULS account. You can re-enroll late until March 15, or August 31, respectively. After that date, you would be unenrolled from your studies.
Classes of the winter semester end in mid-February, and those of the summer semester end in late July. This marks the start of the lecture-free period. Some lecturers offer block courses during this time, particularly in the professional skills area.
At HPI, most Master's exams are held during the first three weeks of the lecture-free period. Some courses also offer an alternative exam date at the end of the lecture-free period. You may take this exam if you wish, if you are ill, or as a second attempt to improve your grade. In the latter case you must apply for a free attempt. Good luck!
After the exams, you will have a few weeks off before the next semester begins.
