We invite you to an Alumni Fireside Chat on the topic "25 Years of HPI - Past, Present, Future" on October 17, 2024, at HPI.
25 years of HPI – a quarter of a century dedicated to science and education for the digital future. As a center of excellence, we have researched innovations and nurtured talents. Together, we now find ourselves at the onset of an era of rapid changes, driven by the developments of Artificial Intelligence. How can we, as an institution and as leading players in companies, continue to inspire young minds, advance research, and create innovations that will lead to a more sustainable future?

Dr. Rouven Westphal is a member of the Executive Board of the Hasso Plattner Foundation since 2015, Westphal oversees the focus area Science & Education, the IT function, and the Investment Office of the Foundation’s endowment. Rouven earned his diploma in mechanical engineering from Technical University Hamburg and his doctoral degree in business administration from the University of Bamberg.

Dr. Gero Decker is General Manager at SAP Signavio and Co-Managing Director at SAP Berlin. He was previously co-founder and CEO of Signavio, a leading provider of process management software with over 2,000 customers and more than 500 employees worldwide, which was acquired by SAP in early 2021. Gero holds a PhD in Business Process Management from the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam, Germany, and is a globally recognized thought leader in process management and business transformation.

Fabian Lindenberg studied at the Hasso Plattner Institute from 2006 to 2012. After completing his master's degree, he co-founded the startup ecotastic with a fellow student from the HPI D-school and another student from HPI. With a mobile app, they motivated people to engage in environmentally friendly behavior in their daily lives and rewarded them with vouchers from sustainable companies. Despite initial successes, the startup could not establish itself in the market. In 2015, Fabian Lindenberg moved to D-LABS GmbH, a former HPI spin-off, where he took over the management of the software development team. Since 2018, he has been working at the digital language-learning company Babbel. Initially, he led individual teams as an Engineering Manager, focusing on enhancing user engagement. In 2022, he transitioned internally to Babbel's business customer division and, as Head of Engineering and now Director of Product & Engineering, expanded product development with three teams.

With a Bachelor's and Master's degree in IT Systems Engineering from the renowned Hasso Plattner Institute in her pocket, Lisa has already published three computer science books. A place on the "Forbes 30 Under 30" list, victories at numerous hackathons, awards such as the Zeiss Women Award and the Young Engineering Award, as well as several scholarships, are all part of her career. Lisa defied all odds as a working-class child and landed jobs at major technology companies. She also wants to enable others to pursue a career in IT and is therefore passionate about leading programming workshops for children and young people across Germany as well as teaching online and summer courses. During her time at HPI, she worked as an equal opportunities officer for over 5 years, establishing the "Equality Lounge" and initiating the "Women in Tech" talks, among other things. She was also editor-in-chief of HPImgzn for 7 years and a very active member of the Education Club. Her fourth book will be published at the beginning of next year.

Alexander Kuscher studied IT Systems Engineering at the Hasso Plattner Institute and graduated in 2009. As part of an exchange program at Stanford University, he was able to gain his first impressions of Silicon Valley. Alexander Kuscher joined Google in 2010 and worked on various projects related to mobile advertising, Chrome browser and Chrome OS. He also holds several patents in the fields of computer hardware, user interfaces and advertising technologies. Kuscher is now responsible for the software product team for Chrome MS and has led developer teams in the areas of program and product management as well as developer relations.

Dr. Frank Pawlitschek is a tech entrepreneur dedicated to empowering tech professionals in Europe to start and scale startups. With law degrees and a doctorate from Mainz and Auckland, he spent a decade specializing in M&A and technology law. In 2008, Frank co-founded ubitricity, a Climate Tech company pioneering mobile electricity metering and light post charging for electric vehicles in Germany and the UK, leading it to a successful exit in 2021. As Director of HPI Engine, the Entrepreneurship Center of the Hasso Plattner Institute, he builds an entrepreneurial ecosystem to help tech academics become leaders, while also serving as Managing Director of HPI Ventures, supporting venture capital initiatives. His work has contributed to numerous successful startups.
