In our clusters Business and Society, Data and AI, Digital Health, Foundations, Security and Systems, researchers from several research areas and institutional leads at HPI work together on issues that contribute to solving societal challenges.
About the clusters
The cluster structure aims to organize the institute similarly to faculties in a university, ensuring a well-balanced focus on Teaching, Research, and Transfer. The clusters are structured as either domain-specific or method-driven, with computer science method-driven clusters forming the institute's core and domain-specific clusters applying these methodologies to other disciplines.
The HPI Engine, Maker Universe and d-school play a cross-functional role, facilitating the transfer efforts across all clusters to maintain a unified and cohesive knowledge strategy.
Method-driven Clusters
Cluster Data and AI
The cluster Data and AI focuses on methods for the analysis, processing, integration and application of large data sets for prediction and automation. The development of modern and energy-efficient AI methods plays a significant role here. More
Cluster Foundations
The Foundations cluster is dedicated to the fundamentals of complex IT systems. This includes systems modeling, mathematical and algorithmic foundations and underlying business processes. More
Cluster Systems
The cluster Systems is concerned with the analysis and design of application-based and service-oriented system architectures as well as their implementation and use. More
Domain-specific clusters
Cluster Business & Society
The Business & Society cluster explores how digital technologies can foster responsible innovation, societal transformation, and entrepreneurial impact. As a key interface between digital systems and societal needs, it combines academic research with the cross-cutting expertise of HPI’s d-school, Engine, Maker Universe, and Professional Development. more
Cluster Digital Health
In the Digital Health cluster, patient-centered and data-driven methods and processes are investigated in interdisciplinary research in order to advance digital technologies in medicine and healthcare. More
Cluster Security
The Security cluster, which is currently being established, is concerned with the theoretical and technical fundamentals, attack detection, as well as the development of strategies to defend against cyber attacks on IT infrastructures. More
